March 2021 Update

Wow! What a roller-coaster we’ve been on for the last three weeks. Difficult to believe we were ice skating on our wonderful lake just a few weeks ago. But, it has been extraordinarily productive. Let’s get on with it.

Membership Special Update

We just sent out over a dozen new membership cards. The response to our 10% discount for members to renew or others to join BEFORE the first day of Spring (also called March 20) is impressive. If you are planning to avail yourself of this offer, you best act within the next 10 days. For those who like to wait for the last minute, you may slide your membership thru the slot in the barn. But, remember: March 20 is the first day of spring. Don’t delay.

Progress on Various Projects

If you have not visited our special place since last season, you are in for some amazement. North Beach is undergoing a major overhaul. The undergrowth behind the beach has been cleared opening it up for much larger groups under some wonderful shade.

We brought in one load of rock and another will be coming when conditions are right. These will be followed by lots of new sand. It should make the beach far more attractive and useable.

Also, most of the trees and shrubs have been cut from the dam. This, too, changes the appearance and opens that area up.

Needless to say, our Winter Warriors and Work Day volunteers have been busy. Be sure to thank these great volunteers. There is still much more for our Winter Warriors to complete before Spring actually arrives.

If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to help us pay for much needed rock and sand, you may send a check to PO Box 1982; Topeka, KS 66601 or slide your check thru the slot in the barn. We thank you.

Associate Membership Changes

The board of directors voted to change the definition for an Associate Member. In the past, an Associate Member was required to live more than 125 miles from our special place. For this year, that distance has been reduced to just 60 miles and there is no limitation on the number of visits an Associate Member can make.

We hope this will encourage many of our supporters who live closer to our special place to become a member. Best of all, if you are considering taking advantage of this, do so before the first day of Spring and enjoy the 10% discount.

Consider a Working Membership

No matter what membership class you may elect, you can get a $100 discount if you volunteer to become a Working Member. This obligates you to spend 10 hours helping with the many projects we have. You can take on responsibility for a single project and see it to completion or you may elect to help with our various group work days. This is a way for everyone to be a part of our plans for the 2021 season and save some money.

Edun Fest is Fast Approaching

Mark the date: The weekend of June 19 will experience Edun Fest ‘21. Tickets will be going on sale in the next few weeks. Members will enjoy a substantial discount (another reason to become an LEF member).

Caretaker Wanted

Once again, we will be looking for someone to serve as our caretaker thru the 2021 season. This is a full-time position for a responsible person to look after our special place from mid-May thru mid-September. Weekends are required.

This is a paid position and could be perfect for a student. If you or someone you know might be interested in this position for the summer, please contact us. Our start and end dates can be flexible if required by your class schedule.

Lost & Found, Sauna, Amazon Smile

One of our members reported finding a yellow & silver pocket knife on the trail leading to the parking lot. If you believe this may be yours, email us and we will put you in contact with the ‘finder.’

Not too many takers for our sauna. With Covid numbers down and many of our supporters vaccinated, now may be a good time to enjoy a relaxing sauna. There are few experiences to compare with a hot sweat when the weather outside is cold. Participation will be limited. If you would like to schedule a time, just let us know.

A week or two ago, we received our regular, quarterly payment from Amazon. This is a program we have explained to our membership in the past and, clearly, many are supporting LEF in this manner. If you are not and you shop on Amazon, we urge you to sign up with Amazon Smile. Under this program, they give to LEF a small percentage of every purchase you make when you log on to smile.amazon.com. Thank you to those who remember to use this.

First Time Experience

We received the following email from Stephen who recently visited our special place for the first time:

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed my time at Lake Edun today. It was peaceful and relaxing in a way that I can’t even describe. I had such a great time. Dave was incredible in his hospitality and in showing me around the property.

I would definitely like to return in a week or two. I liked the seclusion, and definitely want to use my time there primarily for meditation alone, but it would also be nice to meet some of the other members. I’ll try and return on a day that is a little more busy.
