9.12.23 Update

After the sweltering weather we have endured for the past several weeks, our reasonable Fall weather seems almost cold. We’re enjoying Goldilocks weather now; not too cold; not too hot; just right. It’s wonderful to feel the breeze across one’s body. The best part: the weather guessers tell us it will remain this way for the remainder of this week. Perhaps into next week, also. Get out and ENJOY IT!

Fall Campout

To bring in the start of fall, some of our members are putting together a naked gnome scavenger hunt on Saturday, September 23. Rumor has it that beer may be involved for participants, as well as a drawing for other beverage related prizes. Look for more details next week.

For those bold enough to brave the falling evening temperatures, it is also our fall campout. You can enjoy an evening under the stars with a warm fire and good company. If there is interest, we may even initiate the 23/24 sauna season.

Annual Meeting

Remember our Annual Meeting scheduled for Saturday October 14 at 1pm. This important annual event is the time we elect new members to our Board of Directors. It is also your opportunity to tell us how we did this past year and what you would like to see included on the calendar for next year.

The Lake Edun Foundation is a great organization because our members care enough to make it so. Consider the impact you could have if you bring your talents to serve on the board. In addition to the obvious leadership positions, an effective board requires people to serve as Membership, Social, Education/Outreach, Promotion/Publicity; and Facilities Coordinator. If you have a special talent, we can create a board position for you.

All of these are critical responsibilities. We could not be as effective as we are without someone paying attention to each of these areas. None of them require a huge time commitment. Consider how you could take on one of these responsibilities to help bring the advantages LEF offers to many more people.

If you would like more information on any of these positions, just reply to this email. If you are interested in serving on the board but cannot attend the annual meeting, also: reply to this email.

Don’t Throw That Away

As most Eduners realize, we have a wonderful, wood-burning sauna we use during the colder months. In a season, we go thru a great deal of wood. Experience has shown us that the best wood to use in the sauna is dimensional lumber. This would be scrap 2×4’s, etc. that are left over after a project. If you are working on a home improvement project and have some scraps left over, PLEASE, don’t throw them away. Put them into a bag and bring them with you on your next visit to the lake. Really: No piece of scrap is too small to help heat our sauna.

Aluminum

As long-time Eduners realize, we save our aluminum. Next to every trash barrel is another barrel with a can crusher on top. In the fall, we gather this up and take it to be recycled. It makes us feel better by recycling; it also brings in a small amount of cash.

We will be gathering our aluminum in a few weeks for this trek to the scrap dealer. If you save aluminum at home and don’t wish to take it for recycling, please bring it with you on your next visit.
